What is Aikido

Aikido is a journey of self-discovery and a way of life. Aikido challenges and trains the aikidoka to new levels of understanding through physical and mental training. Aikido is a practice for modern times to promote peace and understanding but also evoke confidence and awareness in oneself. While aikido does offer an element of self-defense and derives from a martial background it has evolved and manifested itself into a practice to help coordinate mind and body. Aikido allows the aikidoka to hone the body and sharpen the mind. Through committed practice the aikidoka will develop, controlled relaxation, flexibility and fluidness. The Aikidoka will discover that size and age do not make a difference. What truly matters is spirit.

Embark on the Aikido Journey

SEIDOKAN AIKIDO

The objectives of Seidokan Aikido are to study the philosophy and the arts of Aikido and further develop them to best suit the modern way of life.

Seidokan Aikido is the study of Aikido as a whole. Old traditions are analyzed and only the good traditions are kept and further developed so that they can be useful in our daily lives. Seidokan Aikido emphasizes the attitude of training. The students and the instructors grow together at Seidokan Aikido dojos. The students learn the fundamentals from the instructors and the instructors gain deeper understanding of Aikido while sharing their knowledge with the students. Through earnest, realistic and sincere training, the students of Seidokan Aikido will learn the true meaning of Aikido.

Seidokan Aikido of PCB was originally started in 2010 to bring the Seidokan teachings to the Florida Panhandle. Upon its creation the Seidokan group quickly paired with the other aikido groups in the Panama City, FL area to promote a common goal to bring aikido to the Bay County area. Bay County hosts a unique and inviting mix for aikido training. Aikido of Panama City is a group led by its chief instructor Joe Oglesby, who belongs to ASU (Aikido Schools of Ueshiba) and has been offering aikido training in the Bay County area for many years. In addition to ASU, Aikido of Panama City also hosted members from Ki Society under Jim Randall and USAF. While Seidokan Aikido of PCB focuses on the teachings and practices taught by Roderick T. Kobayashi and Richard Harnack it welcomes and maintains the spirit of Sei through realistic and sincere training from wherever it manifests itself.

“One does not need buildings, money, power or status to practice the art of peace. Heaven is right where you are standing, and that is the place to train ”
